I'm looking to get something set up so when a call comes it would check the caller id information and then get data from our accounting system to display on the phone with the caller id information.

You can use JTAPI to get the caller ID, and there's a terminal method sendData to send information to the phone. I suppose what you can display on the phone and how depends upon the phone.
You can find more info here:

We have 7965, 7945, 7911, and 9971 we are running 8.6 cumc.
I'm presuming that sending anything to the 7911's is mostly useless.

There's a table on this page that should give you an idea of what you can do with the various phones. These are for IP Phone Services XML, but you'll get the idea from the table.
You'll find a later document (version 9.1) on this page, but it's in PDF form.

I guess CURRI will be better option for this kind of app.
