6945 vs 7945

We currently are using 7945s and 7965s along with some older Cisco phones models.  We are evaluating whether we should order 6945s in the future rather than 7945s. The lower power consumption on the 6945 is appealing and we need 10/100/1000 connectivity.  We are running CallManager 8.6.2 and using Extension Mobility extensively on the teacher phones in our classrooms. Line 1 on our 7945s has a dummy number which can only call our internal help desk and 911.   Line 2 on our 7945s are configured with a text label of "Log In" which brings up the Extension Mobility log in screen when pushed.  Our Extension Mobility profiles are configured with a Device Profile type of 7940.  Will Extension Mobility work on the 6945s the same as it does on the 7945s?

Hi ,

I doubt you can use the Device Profiles of 7940 onto 6945 .

Reason being Device profile consists of atrributes of a particular device like phone template, subscribed services and user locale.Mainly,Phone Template is different for each IP phone model.

regds,

I would avoid the 6900 series if at all possible. They were designed to compete against tiny key system installs and were never intended to play in normal deployments. A race to the bottom of the cost ladder is giving them way more attention than they deserve IMO. The screen is difficult to read, which would be a problem for EM, not to mention their speakerphones have a tendancy to echo. They also adopt a different UX than what your users are accustomed to from 7900 phones (some actions are still softkeys while others are now dedicated buttons); many find it confusing. Being new there has been a lot of bugs to navigate.

The phone support the feature; however, not the Feature Safe configuration that would allow the existing Device Profile to get reused. You would need to either create 6945 Device Profiles for users; or, create a Default Device Profile for the 6945 which contains 1DN and 1ServiceURL button.
