Hello,
it is the same configuration as the ATA 186:
You can copy the original configured ATA 187, and then you must change the device name. If the mac adress of the original ATA is 00.11.22.33.44.55 you must prefix 01 to the device name and delete the last to digits of the mac adress -> 01.00.11.22.33.44
Kind regards,
Marcel Ammann

Hello,
Marcel is right, to add to that though, after you add the ATA with the modified MAC, as mentioned by Marcel, you will have to give it a DN to register, as ATA 187 can only be used as a SIP end point on call manager, and SIP end points do not register with out DN.

Hi Mani,
I do not see any document which explains ATA 187 step by step configuration with call manager on the cisco site or internally, probably because it is straight forward, i do not have a access to lab call manager, so can not provide screen shots as well!
But here's a summary of what you need to try:
On the call manager administration page:
1. Device>>phone>>add new phone
2. Select ATA 187, protcol as SIP
3. Put the MAC address as 01 and the last 10 digits.
4. Give it a directory number, which would actually be the 2nd DN of the ATA.
5. Save and reset, the ATA 187 end line should get registered with the MAC 01 and the last 10 digits.
So adding the 2nd line of ATA 187, is almost same as adding the 2nd line of ATA 186, which is explained in the below forum thread:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3215020#3215020
I could only find ATA 187 basic info:
Just try the steps mentioned and it should work!
Do let me know how it goes!
Cheers!

For me adding 01 in front of the first two digits of the MAC address did not work.
I add to delete the first two digits of the MAC address and add 01 at the END.
If you need to make sure, check the system messages by connecting to the ATA IP address from your favourite browser and see the MAC address giving an error and use that one.

I am running CUCM 7.1.5 and I just pulled a new ATA 187 out of the box and I tried the flipping of the MAC address to add in the second line and it did not work. This is the first 187 that I have worked with. The first line works just fine. The MAC of the ATA187 I have is 1CE6CXXX7946 and I copied it and added in a second ATA with the MAC address 011CE6CXXX79 and it did not work. I also tried the same thing I used to do to add a second line to a ATA186 and added in an ATA with the MAC E6CXXX794601 and it also failed. Where am I going wrong?

Hi all,
I too had trouble finding any documentation on how to configure a secondary DN on my ATA 187 devices.
This post was helpful but not entirely accurate in my case.
We're on CUCM 8.0.3.21900-8 and the ATA is:
ATA-187
App Load ID | APP187.9-0-3-0
Boot Load ID | 1.8.0.6 | |
SW_Version ID | 187.9-0-3-0
HW Reversion ID | Rev.06 |
In my case I setup a second device as described with the first two characters truncated and "01" in their place, but the second line was not registering.
I sniffed the ATA-187 during bootup and saw that it was asking for a second config file using a MAC construction of
34:45:56:78:9A:01
So, in my case I had to truncate the first two characters of the MAC, push the remaining ten left and append "01" as the last two.
Hope this helps someone else.

I accessed the communication manager and clicked the IP address of the registered ATA to access the webpage. I then went to status messages and found "File Not Found : CTLSEP2929597A0901.tlv". This was the MAC I then used to plug into the Second line. I to programmed 01XXXXXXXX initially, but changed it to end with 01. So the MAC for Line 1 was "F02929597A09" the MAC for Line 2 is "2929597A0901". This is for an ATA 187.
Its now registered. CM version 9.1

Look in status messages page on ATA-187.
You should see something like 2014/01/21 10:18:34:544 File Not Found : CTLSEPC789D6655001.tlv
In this case, C789D6655001 will be the MAC of line 2.
D0C789D66550 is line 1, so it moved everything left 2 spaces and put "01" at the end.
