Cisco 7942 not booting

Hi guys,

I just jointed a company which uses Cisco IP Phones.

I have a Cisco IP Phone 7942 which not seems to be booting.
When connecting the phone all lights are blinking as on any other Cisco IP Phone,

But on this phone the screen/menu is not loading. It just stays blank.

Looks like the software is not starting.

How can I get this Cisco IP Phone to life?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Verify that you have configured phone properly in call manager,
Cross verify the MAC address in the phone as well as the call manager.
Verify the port the phone is connected is working well. (try connecting phone in another working port)

Tell us what exactly shown in the phone display

The port is working well, I've used my own phone connection.

The display displays nothing. Stays blank.
When turning the phone on all lights lit up like on other phones. But after that nothing happens. The screen should turn on and the phone should start connecting and finding an IP address. But the screen is doing nothing.

Hello,

Can you describe what is shown on the Screen and what is the status on the CUCM side? Is it possible from "show cdp neighbors" to check if the phone has an IP address?

You may also try to hardware reset the device by unplugging the power and then by pressing continouously the # key, then enter 123456789*0#. This way the device will try to load all the files again from the CUCM

The screen is showing absolutely nothing. Like it is not on.

I've tried the hardware reset you suggested, but how do I do that?

The phone should still be connected to the networkcable I assume?

Hi ,

Please follow below steps to perform a factory reset ;

Unplug the power cable from the phone and then plug it back in. The phone begins its power-up cycle.
While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button flashes on and off, press and hold #. ...
Release # and press 123456789*0#.

you should unplug the cable from the phone and reconnect.

Regards,

Shalid

When I do that and keep # pressed, the 2 lights next to the screen are blinking amber.

My screen shows nothing.

I start typing 123456789*0# and after that the lights stop flashing.

After I am done typing I disconnect the power wait a few secs and plug it back in.

Phone is doing exactly the same. Starts its boot sequence with all the lights, then the screen stays blank/empty.

Hi,

you shouldn't be disconnecting the power second time until it finishes the factory reset.

start with unplugging the power and reconnect. then follow the procedure. wait until it completes the factory reset. sometimes it takes around 15 min to complete the activity.

Shalid

Hi guys, thanks for taking the effort to help me with this issue.

To create a complete view;

- My phone is connected by networkcable. With power over ethernet.

- I plug the phone in, the phone starts (headset, mute, speaker and after that the 2 lights next to the screen goes on and off).

- End of functionality, nothing on the display, no sound in the horn.

- I disconnect the networkcable (and also the powercable because of PoE).

- Press # and reconnect the networkcable.

- I keep pressing # until the lights next to the screen are blinking amber.

- I let go of # and start typing 123456789*0#

- the amber flashing lights next to the screen stop flashing.

- still nothing is shown on the display so I dont know if it is doing anything.

- let it stand there for 15 mins, nothing happens.

- disconnect the networkcable (and the power because of PoE).

- reconnect the networkcable

- phone startsup again with the lightshow, but after that still nothing on the screen.

Hi,

what is the call manager showing against this Phone?
can you access the switch connected to the phone and issue command "show cdp neighbors detail " to check for the phone has the IP address or not.

Regards,
Shalid

I will agree with Harris, you should ask for an RMA

I think there is Hardware problem with the phone. Just RMA the phone if you have it under support.

Please rate and mark correct as applicable
