Uniform Resource Identifier Dialing is an enhancement supported with Cisco Ip phone 8961,9951 and 9971 . However, it is not supported on Cisco Ip phone 7960.

what is the need of dialing alpha character ? is it for routing ? I am assuming you not meant for entrying PIN, unlocking/locking phone etc ... AFAIK its is not programmed in this way to dial-out alpha character.
