Cisco VG Series Analog Voice Gateway SRST Feature

Hi,

Can someone please help me on VG Series Gateways (VG310, VG320 and VG350) SRST feature. As mentioned in the datasheet:

"Cisco VG Series has built-in Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) failover to an H.323 connection to a Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) router. This failover maintains voice service for analog endpoints if the WAN link fails or you lose connectivity to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager..."

Does this mean SRST feature is built into VG300 Series devices and no additional SRST licenses needed? or does it mean no separate SRST Routers needed for VG ports to register?

As per the SRST Router datasheet, VG300 Series devices are not in the supported device list. How the VG300 Series SRST feature works?

Thanks,

Vaijanath S.

It appears that only the 350 is supported with 11.6. Could be that the others have not been tested. Could be that the firmware for the other devices has not yet been updated. For whatever reason, only the 350 is currently supported.

SRST works just fine on these. As far as configuration it comes down to what protocol you use to control the analog ports. If SCCP/MGCP then the SRST references pointing to SRST router (local voice GW) needs to be configured in CUCM and assigned to Device Pool. If SIP/MGCP then your dial-peers on the VG3X0 GW need to have reference to local SRST GW as last resort, and SRST GW needs dial-peers to the VG3XX.

Looks like the VG350 is supported with SRST. You would still need a router running SRST.

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for your response. I do see in the above URL that VG350 is supported. What about the VG310 and VG320? Both are from the same family.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

That definitely isn't how it is working on VG310 (which doesn't use MGCP, they are all SCCP). The device pool SRST reference does not control SRST at all.
