clarification about cisco phone 7945 and 7965

dear i need clarification about some thing 

my manager has cisco phone 7821 he always complain about quality of voice and he cant hear well

we have another phone 7945 installed in our office he tried and its fine .. so now the question is which phone should i order the same one 7945 or 7465 ? and which one is better ?

 

7945 that we have already is old and there is a new release? or its fine if i order another same one

7465 is latest or there is newer ? 

what should i order ?

 

i already use cisco manager express cme for configurations and i have 25 seat licenses

can i have your kindly advice

I'd look into using a different FW and network issues to find out why you have those audio issues, you can use whichever model, that really is up to you and what you need. Have you reviewed the datasheets?

Hi there

 

Both 7821 and 7945 are great set of phones. Its up to you which one to go for. 7965 is in fact a same like phone type of 7945 with more additional lines (2 Lines for 7945 & 6 lines for 7965)

 

If you facing audio quality issues on 7821 you can check the below

  • check the sender codec the phone is using (you can get this from accessing the phone ip address from a browser)
  • check the port where phone connected to, any errors on switch port
  • try upgrading the firmware of the phone
  • try changing the coil cord of the phone

to check voice qualiy mid call, you can tap the select button twice, this will tell you jitter latency an MOS scroe of a call, you can call the same number from two different types of phones and see if you see a significat difference, or at least quantify the quality of a call.

What is this "other side" that you are referring to ? Is it ITSP ? Is this intermittent or do you have the issue every time you make a call ? And when you say quality, are you getting a low audio/choppy or robotic audio ? Echo is considered to be a quality issue as well so which of these is your Manager experiencing ?

other side mean the one who i talk with (the receiver) he can hear me well and cant hear him well

Hi there

 

Are you facing this low audio internally or externally.

 

For 7945, are you finding the good quality while talking to another 7945/7965. Pls check the audio codec of 7945 while talking. (You can double click the on the phone during an active call).

 

If its g722 definitely the audio quality will be great 

 

Now check the 7821. You can browse the IP address of the phone and see it on the active stream, or check the gateway. show call active voice

 

There is an issue related with 78XX/88XX causing audio quality problems while OPUS codec is used, (but in CUCM) CSCvc76073

Yeah your codec is fine. I don't believe opus is yet supported on CME. Having said that, the different b/w the two phones is basically a different protocol and a different firmware taken the fact that you are using SCCP for 79XX.
Also with SCCP, the underlying technology is still POTS. It is not VoIP.
Since you did not tell what is the PSTN/ITSP termination, I am assuming POTS. Try to increase the input gain on the voice-port and see if it helps.
Apart from that, a firmware upgrade to the latest available is recommended. Last resort would be a pcap, taken the fact that it is a ITSP termination.

dear which is better g729 or g711 ?

im using g711 but they recommend me here to try g722-64k but not working when im calling give me busy tone

i tried to switch one of ip phone to g729 and its working fine 

 

but which is better is voice quality and level of sound is better ?

Hi there

 

Could you try forcing G.722-64K codec for the 7821 phone and other phone and do the tests

 

1.    enable 

2.    configure terminal 

3.    ephone ephone-tag or voice register pool pool-tag

4.    codec codec-type 

5.    end 

 

you can also enable G.722-64K codec globally

Restriction: If G.722-64K codec is configured globally and a phone does not support the codec, the fallback codec is G.711ulaw.

 

1.    enable 

2.    configure terminal 

3.    telephony-service 

4.    codec {g711-ulaw | g722-64k} 

5.    service phone g722CodecSupport {0 | 1 | 2} 

6.    end

i back it to the previous config by no codec on telephone-service and ephone 1

 

but now what i will do

i changed one of the phone codec from g711 to g722 under voice register pool and when i try to call gives me busy tone 

 

note: i upgraded the firmware to sip78xx.12-1-1-12 recently 

 

so the phone is not supporting this codec or i miss configuration or what ?

 also which one u prefer me to use
