cti route points query

Hi Cisco techs,

Am going to ask maybe a not so smart question.

Do you have to have a CTI route point configured to make outgoing calls from a cisco phone?

Want to do a test call and reading about CTI RP and ports

I understand that a CTI RP must be configured for each program you are using but I have no programs yet.

Outbound calls to what?

If you mean to your UCCE or UCCX (since you posted on contact center forum) then YES the CTI RP redirects the call to the contact center application i.e. JTAPI trigger on UCCX, and in UCCX is the only way of getting to the contact center call flows. With UCCE you can trigger calls directly to CVP/CUSP via route pattern, but CTI Route Point is the supported method.

If you mean in general to make an outbound call to another IP phone or external destination, then NO CTI RP is not used for that.

Thanks Chris for your response.

Sorry. I thought I posted under CUCM collaboration.

To call a national mobile number in Australia and national (Australia again) VOIP number.

So not program related.

Hi John,

I moved your post to IPT forum.

No you dont need CTI route point to call PSTN numbers. You need route patterns on CUCM that will point to your local/centralized gateway/ITSP SIP trunk
