Is it necessary to backup subscribers in a cluster or just the publisher? What are the risks of not backing up the subscribers?

Thank you,

Terry Abbott

The publisher is the only server that houses the database. The subscribers only have a copy of the database. You only need to backup the publisher. You can't backup the subscribers. Please rate if this helps.

Hi Terry,

Just to add a note to the good tips from Chad (+5 points Chad :)

The Cisco Disaster Recovery System (DRS), which can be invoked from Cisco CallManager 5.0 Administration, provides full data backup and restore capabilities for **all servers in a Cisco CallManager cluster. The Cisco Disaster Recovery System allows you to perform regularly scheduled automatic or user-invoked data backups. DRS supports only one backup schedule at a time.

The Cisco Disaster Recovery System performs a cluster-level backup, which means that it collects backups for **all servers in a Cisco CallManager cluster to a central location and archives the backup data to physical storage device. This is paramount in case you need to replace a Subscriber server :)

Thank you Chad and Rob for the very helpful information.

Hi Terry,

You are most welcome :)

Cheers!

Rob

Rob, thanks for the follow up. Although Chad was correct, he was also incorrect. You can only do it from publisher, however it does backup the subscribers. It is like you said a clusterwide backup. If you look at the backups you will see a set of files for each server in the cluster.
