We are currently running UCCM V. 8.6.2.20000-2 with firmware version 9.1.2(SCCP 9-1-2-SR-1) for the 8945 ip phone in a cluster with a Publisher and 2 secondary servers. I have downloaded firmware version SCCP894x.9-2-3-5 to the Publisher and would like to install it on a couple of phonesets before I make it the default. I manually added the load on the device profile under Phone Load Name, reset the TFTP service on the Publisher and rebooted the phone as well as unplugged and plugged the phone in but to no avail, it did not take the new phone load. If you watch the phone it says it is upgrading and takes about 10 minutes to come back up but does not change firwmare load. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this load installed?
Arlene.

Hi Arlene,
Just a quick thought here......is the phone in question
actually registered to the Publisher?
Cheers!

No the phone is registered to one of the subscribers. The TFTP service is only on the Publisher which is where I reset it.

Hi Smyth,
You need to upload the firmware on subscriber and restart tftp service.

Amanso is right (+5) You need to install the firmware on all the servers i the cluster..Here is an excerpt from the read me note
Before using the 9.2(3) firmware for Cisco Unified IP Phone models 8941 and 8945 with Cisco Unified Communication Manager Release 7.1.5 and higher, you need install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified Communication Manager servers in the cluster.
The 9.2(3) firmware for the 8941 and 8945 is listed below.
Table 1: Cisco IP Phone Models 8941/8945 Firmware Load
Cisco IP Phone Model | CallManager Version | Supported Protocol | Executable on Software Page | MD5 hash |
8941, 8945 | 7.1.5 and higher | SCCP | cmterm-894x-sccp.9-2-3-5.cop.sgn | eaeca27c9617cc28bd2d3619ab31a87b |

Hey Deji,
Good point here buddy (+5 )
In this instance if Arlene registered the phone to the Pub
and then reset it you would accomplish the desired result.
The reference you nicely linked highlights why the firmware
needs to be on all servers so we don't run into the issue
she is seeing where a phone is registered to a node that
doesn't have the new firmware installed on it
Cheers!

Rob,
Absolutely correct (+5). Because in most clusters we wont know where each phone will be we play safe by loading the firmware on all servers..
Thanks as always for the compliments
