the phone register in a central CUCM cluster.

Can't recall if that phone model has the Load Server option under the config, if it does, configure there the alternate TFTP where the load is.

Hello Jaime,

I am having the same issue. Using CUCM 8.5.1, CP69xx and doesn't have the Load Server option in it.

Does it mean that this solution does not work for CUCM 8.5.1?

Hi Javier,

I'll just jump in for a moment to add to the great tips from Java (+5 )

On the phone config page (in CUCM) for the 8941 have a look down towards

the bottom of the page for;

Product Specific Configuration Layout

and see if there is a box labelled "Load Server" if so you can use this to

point to the file TFTP location

As per;

Alternative Image-Distribution Solutions

When  unified communications customers began to take advantage of the ability  to locate phones remote to the call-processing servers and the firmware  image size increased, Cisco added support to the Cisco Unified  Communications Manager for two additional methods for distributing phone  firmware.

One  of the alternate methods of image distribution is with the load server,  a customer-provided TFTP server that contains the image files the phone  needs to complete an upgrade. A TFTP server can be a Cisco IOS® Software Gateway or a PC-based third-party TFTP server. The advantage  to using the load server to deliver firmware is that you can direct  phones to retrieve firmware files from a LAN-connected device instead of  the default Cisco Unified Communications Manager TFTP server. If the  TFTP load server is connected through a LAN that is local to the phone,  the upgrade process will complete in approximately the same time as if  the phones were local to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager TFTP  server.

When  configured correctly, the load-server image distribution works very  well. But because image files must be manually moved to the load server,  there is room for error when using this firmware deployment model. The  Cisco Unified Communications Manager system administrator is responsible  for identifying the required images, downloading the images, and then  verifying the integrity of the images. Additionally, when a load server  is configured on a phone, if the files are not available or invalid on  the load server, the phone will never complete the upgrade.

Hi Javier,

That's too bad This is related to the phone model rather than CUCM version.

You may have to set this on the phones themselves then;

Table 4-2     IPv4 Setup Menu Options

Option
Description
To Change

DHCP

Indicates whether the phone has DHCP enabled or disabled.

When DHCP is enabled, the DHCP server assigns the phone an IP address. When DHCP is disabled, the administrator must manually assign an IP address to the phone.

Scroll to the DHCP option, press the Edit softkey, then press either the No softkey to disable DHCP, or press the Yes softkey to enable DHCP.

IP Address

Internet Protocol (IP) address of the phone.

If you assign an IP address with this option, you must also assign a  subnet mask and default router. See the Subnet Mask and Default Router  options in this table.

1. Set the DHCP option to No.

2. Scroll to the IP Address option, press the Edit softkey, and then enter a new IP Address.

3. Press the Apply softkey, then press Save.

Subnet Mask

Subnet mask used by the phone.

1. Set the DHCP Enabled option to No.

2. Scroll to the Subnet Mask option, press the Edit softkey, and then enter a new subnet mask.

3. Press the Apply softkey, then press Save.

Default Router 1

Default router used by the phone (Default Router 1).

1. Set the DHCP Enabled option to No.

2. Scroll to the appropriate Default Router option, press the Edit softkey, and then enter a new router IP address.

3. Press the Apply softkey, then press Save.

DNS Server 1

Primary Domain Name System (DNS) server
(DNS Server 1).

1. Set the DHCP Enabled option to No.

2. Scroll to the appropriate DNS Server option, press the Edit softkey, and then enter a new DNS server IP address.

3. Press the Apply softkey, then press Save.

Alternate TFTP

Indicates whether the phone is using an alternative TFTP server.

Scroll to the Alternate TFTP option and press the Yes softkey if the phone should use an alternative TFTP server; press the No softkey if the phone should not use an alternative TFTP server.

TFTP Server 1

Primary Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server used by the phone.  If you are not using DHCP in your network and you want to change this  server, you must use the TFTP Server 1 option.

If you set the Alternate TFTP option to yes, you must enter a non-zero value for the TFTP Server 1 option.

1. If DHCP is enabled, set the Alternate TFTP option to Yes.

2. Scroll to the TFTP Server 1 option, press the Edit softkey, and then enter a new TFTP server IP address.

3. Press the Apply softkey, then press Save.

TFTP Server 2

Optional backup TFTP server that the phone uses if the primary TFTP server is unavailable.

1. Enter an IP address for the TFTP Server 1 option.

2. Scroll to the TFTP Server 2 option, press the Edit softkey, and then enter a new backup TFTP server IP address.

3. Press the Apply softkey, then press Save.

DHCP Address Released

Releases the IP address assigned by DHCP.

Scroll to the DHCP Address Released option and press the Edit softkey, then press the Yes softkey to release the DHCP Address.

If you point to the phone to a TFTP via DHCP (or manually for that matter), it will try to get ALL of the configuration files, not just the FW.
