Move phones to differnet subscriber

Richard Moore

I have a cluster with one publisher and 4 subscribers, the publisher and 2 subscribers are in one location (California) and the other two subscribers are across a wan link in a different location (Utah). I need to have 40 phones in the Utah location, that register to the Utah subscribers, now register to the California location subscribers. The phones are going to remain in Utah, register to California and use the California gateways for calls. How can i accomplish this, very new to CUCM and need some assistance.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Build different CUCM Groups (ordered list of CUCM server preference) and assign them to location specific Device Pool which are assigned to the phones.

Hi Richard,

The device "registration" relationship is built via the Callmanager Group and Device Pool that the phones belong to.

You  can specify where a phone registers by assigning it to a specific  Device Pool this in turn will look at a Callmanager Group that lists a  Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Callmanager server.

Here is some related info;

Cisco  Unified CallManager groups and device pools represent logical groupings  of devices that you can arrange in any way that you want. For ease of  administration, make sure that all the devices in a group or pool share a  common and easily identified characteristic, such as their physical  location on the network.

You  can also use Cisco Unified CallManager groups to establish redundancy  (backup call processors) for the primary Cisco Unified CallManager in  the group. A Cisco Unified CallManager group comprises an ordered list  of up to three Cisco Unified CallManager servers. During normal  operation, the first (primary) Cisco Unified CallManager in the group  controls all device pools and devices that are assigned to that group.  If the primary Cisco Unified CallManager in a group fails, control of  the device pools and devices that are registered with the primary Cisco  Unified CallManager transfers to the next Cisco Unified CallManager in  the group list.

Cisco Unified CallManager Groups

A  Cisco Unified CallManager group comprises a prioritized list of up to  three Cisco Unified CallManagers. The first Cisco Unified CallManager in  the list serves as the primary Cisco Unified CallManager for that  group, and the other members of the group serve as secondary (backup)  Cisco Unified CallManagers.

Cisco  Unified CallManager groups associate with devices through device pools.  Each device belongs to a device pool, and each device pool specifies  the Cisco Unified CallManager group for all of its devices.

Cisco Unified CallManager Groups:

Call  processing load balancing You can configure device pools and Cisco  Unified CallManager groups to distribute the control of devices across  multiple Cisco Unified CallManagers.

Device Pools

Device pools provide a convenient way to define a set of common characteristics that can be assigned to devices.

One thing to be aware of when you do a change like this, is that you need to take into account

the 911 calling for these 40 users to ensure they aren't calling 911 via a California gateway. It

will take along time to dispatch emergency responders to Utah

Cheers!

Awesome! thanks guys, so it sounds like I just need to change the device pool of the phones to a new device pool, well, actually, the device pool that i need to change them to already exists, so, i will just move them. yes the 911 and local calling is another issue, i want the local calls to go out the local gateway. Its a call center envrionment and i need certain calls to go out California and local to go out the local gateways.

Richard,

Not sure if your last post was a follow up question or just a comment, let us know if you need anything else.

HTH, please rate all useful post!

Hello Chris,

There is something i would like to clear.can one add new phones in the subscriber incase the publisher fails i understand most changes are made in the subscriber.

Using the above scenario where Utah subscriber is linked over the wan link to california publisher. If that wan link fails, and we need to add new phones ,will that be possible with subscriber

To meet that requirement configure separate Route Groups for each local gateway, reference these RGs as the Standard Local Route Group in the relevant Device Pool.   Your PSTN Route List references Local Route Group rather than specific gateways.  Then you just need a single instance of each Route Pattern pointing to this RL, and the call will route to the local gateway of the calling device's Device Pool.

Hope this helps.
