Moving Pub in to a new server

We need to replace some of our UCS servers which has a CUCM Pub and Unity Pub on them, if they were Subscribers then no issues.

The original have been installed with Hostnames 

Issue

At the moment the new UCS are in different DC`s from the original clusters  

our thinking is as follows

Move the UCS to the same DC as the original, same Subnet as the original Pub

Build  the new UCS servers with the same IP and Hostnames but hide them behind NAT rules

Build the servers with the same SW as the original

Restore the DRS to the new servers from  the original Cluster

Turn off the old Pub , un-hide the new servers

Aim - Try to reduce any certificate issues by keeping the IP and Hostname the same

The other option  is to keep the new UCS in different DC

Build  the new UCS servers with the same IP and Hostnames but hide them behind NAT rules

Build the servers with the same SW as the original

Restore the DRS to the new servers from the original Cluster

Change the IP address and Host name on the new "PUB"

Turn off the old Pub , un-hide the new servers

issue -Would we need to do the Certificates due to the change of IP and Hostname 

Next Question 

After the work above we need to upgrade from 10 to 11 - is there any issues, Certificates on phones etc. we aim to keep the old phone firmware in place by turning off the TFTP , replace the new firmware with the old ones , turn on TFTP

We have Unity and IM&P as well where we need to do the same

Feels like your overthinking this. As the CUCM is a VM you should be able to just move it as is to a new ESXi host that is running on the new UCS. No need to rebuild the node and restore from DRS.

Why not look at PCD network migration as an option?  It would require you perform an upgrade at the same time, but eliminates re-hosting and re-IPing, I have done it in similar circumstances.  You would have to migrate your Subs to new VMs with this approach as well, so if you have large cluster this may not be worth it, just throwing out options.

You definitely can do this, we have used it multiple times for UCS hardware renewals or move VMs to other ESXi hosts that run on non UCS hardware.
