I bought a new KEM (PID: CP-8800-A-KEM) along with the cisco ip phone CP8851 but unable to power up the KEM. I am using C2951 ISR with IOS 15.6 and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) version 11.5. Please note i am using call manager express not CUCM. Is there any compatibility issue with my ios/cme with AKEM ? is there any one who can help me here?

Probably the switch-port doesn't provide enough power for both the phone and the KEM.
Maybe you need an extra power injector, to provide more power.
Same question here:

Appreciate your reply on this!!

We are using Cisco 2960X switch and connected CP-BEKEM-V02 along with CP 8851 ip phone model without any issues. I don't think this is the switch port power issue since other KEM models are working as expected. Is there any compatibility you can think of in this case?

But maybe now you have too much power load on the switch, to power yet another phone with a KEM.
Just because it works for 1 phone+KEM, doesn't mean it works for 10.
Maybe you should check, if you have enough power left on the switch.

And have you configured the KEM in CME?

currently i have disconnected the other KEM and using only this one. Yes i have configured " type 8851 addon 1 CKEM" in the CME. Also please note i have 4 different switches cisco 2960X and all of them are racked, so there is no question on the power load i guess..

On the switch, post the complete output to the command "sh power inline".

From the output, please identify which phones have a KEM.

Please see the attached power inline output. phone 8851 has KEM and remaining power shows 786 Watts, even after connecting the KEM which is more than enough i guess

I think you have a CUCME version issue with the A-KEM:

For Unified CME 12.3 and prior releases, KEM support is limited to C-KEM and BE-KEM device types. From Unified CME Release 12.5, Key Expansion Module (KEM) device types A-KEM (Audio) and V-KEM (Video) are supported for Cisco IP Phone 8800 Series.

Thanks for reaching out and appreciate your time on this. Apparently, this looks like the issue, and we should upgrade the CME version to 12.5 or later. The problem for me is we are using C2951 ISR and the latest IOS version 15.7.3 and it can support up to CME 12.0 as i understand (correct me if i am wrong). Is there any work around to make the KEM work on these devices?

Unfortunately I do not have a workaround. I didn't even know there were different kinds of KEMs until I went looking, to be honest.

It may be that someone else has a workaround for you, but I think you might be stuck.

Maren

There are no workarounds for this. The CME version requirements for using this type of KEM is a hard requirement.
