Hello,
We've upgraded our Cisco phones to new Cisco 8851 phonesets. The 5 buttons left of the screen are easily programmable, but I was hoping to program a few of the unused buttons on the right hand side of the screen. Does anyone know if these are programmable, and if so the process of doing so?
Thanks,
-Darren

Hi Darren,
8851 comes only with 5 programble line keys left hand side and the button which you see on right hand side are session buttons .These are used to answer a call or resume a held call or display missed calls etc.

Thanks for the reply Deepak,
And there are not creative ways to program a few of these unused session keys in CUCM that you are aware of?

That is a good question . I dont think we can, as each session button is asscoiated with a call .So if a call comes in you can use session button to answer or hold or to retrieve.
I haven't tried it though so if find something ,please update here.
Thanks

Darren, if you really need to use more than 5 line buttons then you will need to use a KEM and do it that way. Refer Programmable feature buttons and Session of below document for more:

no, we can only configure up-to five programmable lines as the 8800 series phones offers only five programmable line keys below is the reference document for the same.

Also the below data sheet demo video confirms the same.

Hi Darren,
In the latest firmware update for the 8800 series phones, 11.5(1), a new feature called Enhanced Line Mode was added. This allows you to use the 5 "session" buttons as line keys. The features on the phone are limited when this is enabled as documented here in the release notes.
I hope this helps.

Did you get this resolved? I had issue and I needed to upgrade my cluster to 11.5 and then the enhanced Line Mode Appears magically on the 8800. It is second from bottom. I had a hard time to get a straight answer and a document that says you need CUCM 11,5 min.
Hope you have it fixed but just in case I thought I would add my two cents

I have 11.0 and at the bottom of the initial phone configuration page there is a drop down for session/enhanced mode. You will also need to program a button template to go along w/that or I believe they just become Spd DL's by default. I am trying to add a hunt login key to the right side with the phone still in session mode as to not burn a line key.
