Setting up an IP telephony network

Hello everyone,

Please I'm new to cisco devices, but I have an issue in setting up an IP telephony network.

I have at my disposal a 2811 router, a 2960 cisco switch, one 7960 and a 7940 IP phone.

After having configured vlans, ip addresses, telephony services and dhcp on the switch and router, I noticed that the switch port (Fa0/13) on which the 7940 IP phone is connected does not come on. it completely shows no light.

And curiously, the light in question lights up whenever the switch boots up.

Please I have another question:

I learned from one youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv__MC9Si_c) that these 7940 & 7960 phones are so ancient and are to be avoided.

Does it means there's no possible way of setting up a telephony network with 7960 and 7940 phones?

Any help shall be well appreciated

Regards,

They might have mentioned it because, these are end of sale devices.

if the phones are not powering up u need to check the switch. it should be POE Model.
