SIP Trunk break between Cisco CUCM and SBC

Hi, We have sip trunk connection from SBC to cisco cucm for one of the facility. I would like to know, if there is a communication break between SBC and Cisco CUCM, will it be possible to make calls within the facility. I have also included the snip of our design, where facility 1 and 2 are connected via SIP trunk.

If the phones in Facility 2 register with the Facility 2 SBC (which is Audiocode), the phones will operate in Facility 2 regardless of the link between CUCM and SBC being down, as @Vaijanath Sonvane  mentioned. However, to call both facilities, you might need to route the calls through PSTN during the WAN outage if the SBC has PSTN connectivity.

If the connection between the CUCM and SBC breaks, you can still communicate through the PSTN if both sites have a PSTN connection. However, the feasibility of this depends on your setup. From the snippet you shared, it’s unclear how calls are managed between the facilities and the purpose of their interconnection. Please provide more details about your infrastructure so we can better answer your question.

Hi, The purpose of having the SBC in the design is to allow local communication within the facility. When there is a link break between facility 1 and 2, facility 2 should be able to handle the call locally without dependency on facility 2. There is no call manager in facility 2. We only have SBC to route calls from facility 2 to facility 1.

What SBC do you use in Facility 2?

Are the phones in Facility 2 registered with CUCM or the SBC?

In a centralized design where phones in both Facility 1 and Facility 2 register with CUCM in Facility 1, Facility 2’s has a router it can transition to SRST mode during a WAN outage if SRST configurations are in place and if required licenses are avaibaile. This allows the phones in Facility 2 to fall back and register with the router during the outage

Our plan to use Audiocodes SBC in facility 2. In facility 2, phones will be registered to SBC only, not to facility 1 Cisco CUCM.

Hi @inhamit,

If the AudioCodes SBC is configured to act as the SIP Server Agent for the IP phones at Facility 2, the phones will operate independently of the CUCM at Facility 1. This means the phones at Facility 2 will continue to function regardless of whether the connection between Facility 1 and Facility 2 is active or down.
