Hi guys.

I have a cucm network that phones with model such as cp-7821 are registered successfully. I just bought a phone model 7811. But it is not registered. The phone received the IP address and vlan number and the tftp address from the dhcp server and assigned it. I restored the phone to factory settings, but there was no change and it only shows the unprovisioned message .And I have shown in the pictures that its active server is none. In cucm the profile of this phone is created but the ipv4 address of phone is unknown.

Flowchart of my voip network is as follows:

I attached config of my voip router . What i do to register this phone model ?

The "Unprovisioned" message means that the phone has downloaded a configuration file that it considers invalid. This can be for a number of reasons, such as the phone being built in CUCM with the wrong model, the configuration file itself is corrupt in CUCM, the phone's flash downloaded the file improperly, and a couple of other less-common reasons.

So let's start with the easy stuff. Is the phone built in CUCM with the correct phone model? (I assume so, but it doesn't hurt to ask.) Does a factory reset of the phone solve the issue? (Sorry...I missed where you mentioned that already.)

The next thing would be a corrupt config file in CUCM. Do a super-copy of the 7811 phone in CUCM with a dummy MAC address. Then delete the original record. Then replace the MAC address on the 'new' phone in CUCM with the actual MAC address of the phone.

If those three things don't resolve the issue, let us know and we can go from there.

Since you have done a factory reset and the behavior still remains the same, in addition to what @Maren Mahoney  mentioned, kindly check the following:

  1. Verify the phone model configured.
  2. Check if the phone has extensions configured.
  3. Make sure you used the correct MAC address.

If possible, share the status message from the phone; it might help us.

Thank you guys.

Is it possible that my 2911 voice router doesnt support this VoIP phone model?

Will it work to update the phone's firmware by running the tftp and dhcp service through the tftpd64 software on my computer?

You mentioned CUCM in your post. What does the 2911 have to do with phone registration in CUCM? Are you using CUCM or CME?

I’m a bit confused now

Thank you so much nithin.

I attached the config of my voip router and i put my flowchart of network in my post.

Thank you so much for following your helpful comments to resolve my problem.

Ah! That you are using CUCM Express and not CUCM itself is a helpful detail. The 2911 router (as you probably already know) went End of Support a couple of years ago. It will depend on exactly what IOS version you are running (which in turn determines what version of CUCM Express you are running), but the Data Sheet for CUCM Express 11.5 shows that the 2911 does support the 7811 phones:

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express 11.5 Data Sheet

Can you provide your router's voice configuration? This would include at a minimum "voice service voip" , "voice register global" , "voice register dn XXX" (associated with the 7811 you are trying to register), and "voice register pool" for this phone. (More information is better if you are comfortable sharing.)

Two questions I'd ask about the voice register pool for this phone:

  • Is the type listed as 7811 on the voice register pool?
  • Is there a directory number associated with the pool in the form of "number <tag>"? (SIP Phones won't fully register unless they also have a phone number associated with them as the number registers too.)

Thank you maren .

I attached the config of my voip router and i put my flowchart of network in my post

Thank you very much for following your helpful comments to resolve my problem.

If you want to use the 2921 router as a CUCM Express router you will need to add the core CUCM Express commands to run phones. It does not happen automatically. Here is a guide to the basics:

I did a series of webinars for my previous company a couple of years ago. The series is one of many available on the Internet on this topic. Here is a link to the first one.

Get the basics under your belt (build your phones as SIP phones!) and then let us know if you have questions or run into issues.

As per your post, you have the 7821 registered, and the new 7811 you purchased has issues. You sent us the router 2911 configurations, which do not include the necessary configurations for the 7811 and even the 7821 to work, which you mentioned is working fine. It appears that the 2911 is just a voice gateway, and I strongly believe you have a CUCM setup, not CME.

In the picture, you mentioned the 2911 as a device to terminate the PSTN connection. Also, in the shared image, you have voice servers 1 and 2, but the details mentioned are confusing.

Please provide us with proper information to help you out.
