Upgrading disk space on CUCM 8.6 (vmware)

Thomas McLean

Hi all,

We have built a CUCM cluster on a hybrid design - our publisher is virtualised which has 80gb of space allocated to it across the appliance!

So a few days ago we have been getting RTMT alerts stating that we have breached the 90% fs quota for the Disk/logging partition.

                        Total            Free            Used

Disk/active         14643056K        2466476K       12027816K (83%)

Disk/inactive       14643120K        2601980K       11892376K (83%)

Disk/logging        50179664K        5201148K       42388340K (90%)

My question is if we upgrade the size of the disk - how is it we upgrade the

Disk/logging partition and if we do it will it impact the server at all?

I hope this all makes sense.

Thanks,

Thomas.

You can't just expand a disc or partition with CUCM. You have to backup, re-create the virtual HD, re-install CUCM and restore CUCM.

The latest OVAs have larger discs compared to the earlier ones.

Hi Thomas,

just refer this link which says

  • Adding vDisk is not supported as it would require re-partitioning by the application.

regds,

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I feared that would be the case as you cannot just dynamically upgrade the fs quota.

We were planning a rebuild of the pub due to a vCPU that we hoped to deploy.

Thanks

I hear this is coming in version 10, not that it helps your situation :-(

Just spotted this on the Cisco download site:

Has anyone had success with using the resizing .cop file?

ciscocm.vmware-disk-size-reallocation-1.0.cop.sgn

Worked for me.

Hi Gordon, was it as simple as the PDF says it is? i.e. load cop file, shut down virtual machine, increase vdisk size and start virtual machine.

Did you have any issues at all?

What was the size of your vdisk before the upgrade and what did you increase it to?

It went very easily. I upgraded from 80MB disc to 110MB disc.
