Why IP phone need to know its VLAN information?

The IP phones doesn't need to know the voice vlan, but it's best practice and good design to separate data and voice traffic in different vlans.

With help of VLAN information, phone will communicate within network (DHCP and TFTP), so VLAN information is very necessary for the phone to get registered and work ready.

The phone can very well register on the data vlan, as long as the option 150 is supplied by DHCP. But as I wrote before, it's not a good design and certainly not best practice to do so.

There are many reason for why this is a best practice, security would be one reason, maybe the most important one. Easier setup of QoS another. Please read the CUCM SRND to get more answers about best practice for design of a CUCM system.
