Need advise on connecting the fiber cable between two switches.
We have existing core switch model C9300-NM-8X, we are extended small office same building in different floor. We had buyed the new switch model C9200-NM-4X.
Now we want connect the fiber cable from existing core switch model C9300-NM-8X to new switch model C9200-NM-4X.
We need to buy the SFP(Single mode) for the switches what type of SFP we need to buy hardware / model perspective because we had 9300 and 9200 switches it's creating small confusion, please check and advise on it.

Hi there,
You haven't specified the distance but did mention it was in the same building however, since you are using single-mode these tend to all be long range and the last time I looked at prices are expensive, eg: SFP-10G-LR.
If you are contrainsed by cost there is a 1Gbps SFP which works on SMF, the GLC-LH-SMD.
You can find a list of compatible SFPs for your network modules here:
https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?si=C9300-NM-8X
https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?si=C9200-NM-4X
Having different model NM's doesn't matter as they both support SFP+ . Just make sure you have the same modle SFP at either end!
cheers,
Seb.

It all depends on the length of the cable. Is the cable to the existing office about the same length as the cable to the new office? Then you are likely good with the the same type of SFP as you used to the existing switch.

Hello All,
Heartfelt thanks to all, the distance between the switches is 100 meters(In same building 1st floor to 3rd floor).

in that case Multi mode is good enough with 10G-SR or 10SR-S do the work for you.

No one seemed to ask if you already have the fiber in the building, if you do, do not just buy any old SFP, you need to match them up.
If you have single-mode (9/125) cable then use single-mode SFPs.
If you have OM1 (62.5/125) or OM2, OM3, OM4 (50/125), you should use multi-mode SFPs.
You can sometimes get away with pushing single-mode across multi-mode cables with a conditioning cable (and sometimes without one if it's short enough).
The opposite is not true, so try to make sure they match.
If you don't have fiber installed yet, buy the cheaper solution and match up the cable to the SFPs you buy.

Hello All,
I have Cisco 9300 and 9200 connected with fiber cable with 100 meter distance.
I would like to buy 1G MM SFP for both the sides.
Let me know if i am wrong.

Mahendar Reddy.

Hello Teams,
Thank you all.
How to find OM type, i know only it's multimode fiber cable connected between C9300 to C9200 with distance of 100 meters.
I suggested to my a multimode SFP according to the switch model from cisco brand(To avoid incompatibility), now local engineer asking about the transceiver model, actually i never dealed with hardware. What i need to suggest now.
Please help me team.
