Cisco IP Phones

Hi, pls excuse my ignorance - I just want to know whether a cisco phone would work on another vendors switch or router ...

Not with the Skinny firmware as that is Cisco propriatary, you can convert it to SIP firmware and use with most SIP vendors. Make sure that the vendor supports Cisco phones.
