VG248 Faxes and Best Signalling VoIP Method Possible?

Hi.

I try searching the forum but the search is not working. What is the best signalling method to add faxes to the VG248. The other end will be MGCP gateways. What would be the best method: Cisco Fax Relay, T.38 Fax Relay or Fax Passthrough.

Hello,

Please note if you are using MGCP gateways,it does nto support Cisco fax relay.So you cannot use them .You are left with T.38 and Fax passthrough.I would say use T38.

AFAIK CallManager doesn't support T.38 with MGCP gateways, only with H.323 since 4.1

Then the only option you have is Fax Passthrough.

OK. So does Fax Passthrough works reliable? We will be having a couple of faxes connected to the VG248 going out the MGCP gateway to the PSTN.

Yeah, fax passthrough is fine and has the widest compatibility with devices...

Just be sure that your underlying network is good and has QoS correctly configured as faxing is more susceptible to packet loss than voice...
