Hi Gents,

I know this post is some 5 months old, but today I've been tasked with getting VSOM running on a Windows 10 Surface Pro 3 and have had some success.  Below I describe the steps I took to get it running in Firefox.  (Not ideal but works)...  I couldn't find a solution to this problem anywhere else.

Ran Internet Explorer as Administrator (Right click run as administrator, don't know if this has any impact on the end result, but I've included step for thoroughness)

Logged onto VSOM as administrator and installed the client, ignoring the aforementioned error about vsmc70rt.dll not registering.

Rebooted

Opened cmd prompt as Administrator.  Run: CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco Multi-Pane Video Surveillance Client 32 bit"

Run: regsvr32 jsbridge.dll

Run: regsvr32 vsmc70rt.dll

In windows Explorer, opened "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco Multi-Pane Video Surveillance Client 32 bit" and deleted IPHLPAPI.DLL

Installed VLC latest from website. (Make sure Mozilla Plugin is installed during installation)

Opened firefox and then in the URL type: about:addons

Change VLC Web Plugin from "ask to activate" to always activate

In the URL type: about:preferences#advanced

Goto certificates: Choose "select one automatically" and untick "Query OCSP responder..."

Hope this helps someone.  If you find some steps aren't required please feel free to update as necessary.

Cheers

Chris

Haven't tried Windows 10 (which is what I assume you meant above) yet personally.  Thanks for the heads up!

If I get a chance to attempt myself... I'll report back if I find anything.

Cheers!

Yes Scott, this is when attempting to access VSOM on Windows 10.  I can access the admin features, but camera viewing doesn't seem possible at this point.  Basically what I get is an error on vsmc70Rt.dll registering, which is weird, because I wouldn't think the architecture would be THAT different.  Everything worked fine on 8.1 64 bit, so I'm not certain what to think, but it's difficult to completely transition to Windows 10 at this point!

Thanks for sharing your experience thus far.

I can't see myself getting a chance to test Windows 10 any time soon, but if I get the opportunity, I won't forget to dig up this thread and see where it's at.

Cheers!

Thank you Chris, that helped me!

I will add that doing this solution doesn't allow you to look at your archives, only live video, so it isn't a whole solution, unfortunately.

Hi John,

Aside from the above temporary fix I don't think there is much other option but to move to 7.7.  Which in our case is not possible as a 3rd party app is not developed for this version.  Best to stick to Windows 7 for all necessary clients.  Luckily for us, live feeds are all that needs to be done on the Windows 10 clients.

I agree, Chris.  We also cannot move to 7.7 as the hardware we are using doesn't support it, we need to upgrade some servers.  Unfortunately, we had a number of computer replacements coming up that were going to go to Windows 10, but I guess they will have to wait!

We have upgraded to 7.7.0, and still have the same issue with Windows 10.  Very disappointing that this is still an issue.

I just discovered this problem this morning as well. Luckily we have a VM that we use just in case.

I tried opening up in the "integrated" IE that comes with the Edge Explorer but no dice.

Then, this is where it gets interesting. I'm not able to remove the old software " Cisco Mulit-Pane" x64 and 32 bit. I'm trying to see if I can get it to reinstall in IE mode.

Anyways, I'll keep you posted. If all else fails. You still have the "Advanced Video Player" to work, right?

Scratch that. Installer won't work either for the Thick Client.

From what I can tell of the architecture; both the IE and SASD thick clients leverage a 64bit ActiveX component called 'Viper64.cab' (if my memory serves me).  I hadn't really considered how much of an impact this could be for Cisco if they can't get the SASD client to run on Windows 10 yet.

Something tells me a new version must be imminent.

Actually, I had no issue with SASD.  It comes up and works fine, but I tend to lean towards the web client stuff, since that is where all the admin stuff is.  We have security people at our locations that can rely more on SASD, but I usually prefer to login to VSOM.

So I ran into another problem because of Windows 10.

I changed a template while one camera was off the network and it broke the configuration of it when the camera came back on the network as the template configuration caused a mismatch with it. So I replaced the configuration on the camera, but the camera still remains broken as the motion detection on it has to be reset as well.

Since the video playback plug in doesn't work, I can't reset the motion detection on it. :(
