I have a Cisco 2600 series router in my lab...It's a modular router...Right now I have only 1 ethernet port on it (which is on board) I want to increase the number of ethernet ports. Probably I would be going with a expansion card for ethernet.Could someone please let me know whether I can put a ethernet expansion card on 2600 router???And if possible could someone please suggest me the part number for the same???

THANKS..

RAJ

There is also NM-16ESW (16 port fast ethernet) available. It's variants include PoE and gigabit.

BTW some of the modules listed by spremkumar only work in the 2691.

Hi Geoff and Prem...

I have 2612 router. And my requirement is 4 Fast Ethernet ports and if possible 2 Gig (copper) ports. Please do tell me which is the best suitable one out of all these...

Pl. find the shw version of the same as follows:

If you're using that router for learning purposes I don't think you should upgrade it because it has it's limitations:

- The 2600 non-XM routers are considered End-of-Life;

- It has memory constraints i.e. 64/16;

- It does not support Gigabit Ethernet;

- It has a 15.000 pps switching limit;

- Cannot run IOS software beyond 12.3 mainline.

Please refer to this EoS document

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/prod_eol_notice09186a008032d4c2.html

I suggest, if you want to protect your investment to start looking for more recent platform. The successor of the 2600 series router is the 2600XM router with greater memory and flash to service new IOS software and hardware features.

Hello Raj,

To my best knowledge you will not be able to convert the 2612 to the configuration that you specify.

I already posted the overview that lists all supported modules for the 2600 series.

If you cannot suffice with the addition of any supported modules, you will have little options but ordering a new router.

Leo

Guys..

Final question..Does my router have any option of increasing ethernet/fast ethernet ports??? Currently it has only one and I need at least 2 eth/Fast Eth ports...

If yes, do please let me know the correct module...

RAJ

Somebody please reply....

RAJ

as mentioned by spremkumar the NM-1E 1-Port Ethernet Network Module should work with your setup.

Hi Raj...

As pointed by Prem and Leon, lookout the exact part number and trace the same on :

http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/finder/msbsearch.pl

Hope this helps...

You can add 1 (NM-1E) or 4 (NM-4E) ethernet, or 1 fast ethernet (NM-1FE-TX).
