Need Layer3 Switch Recommendation

Mehdi Javadi

In a network of my customers, there are 30 clients connected with 2 C2960S switches, also their uplink is SFC (1G).

I am considering managing the network via VLAN and need a Layer 3 Switch.

Could someone recommend C9200L or C9300L, Which is suitable for Me?

Also, is a license required for VLAN switching?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Hello @Mehdi Javadi

Check that model C9200L-24T-4G

24 ports RJ45 1G + 4 uplinks SFP ports (1G)

Since you need L2 SWITCH only without L3 features/capabilities, licence DNA Essentiel is the choosen one.

Thanks for reply  @M02@rt37

Previously, network switches like C3750 did not need a license, and considering 3/5/7 years this license has been subscribed, what will happen after it is deactivated?

What is the main difference between C9200L and C9300L?

Is C9200L a L3 Switch?

Hello @Mehdi Javadi

Cisco Catalyst 3750 switches typically do not require separate licenses for basic functionality. If a license was subscribed for a specific period (3/5/7 years), once it expires, the switch would continue to operate with its base features. However, any advanced or subscription-based features that were enabled by the license might be disabled or revert to a default state.

The 9300L series is typically positioned as a higher-end model compared to the 9200L series.

9200L series are L2 switches and you could active L3 capabilities since the licence permit that :

 Check here : https://www.cisco.com/c/m/en_us/products/software/dna-subscription-switching/en-sw-sub-matrix-switching.html

Note that cisco's oficial documentation and product datasheets provide comprehensive information about the features, specifications, and licensing for each switch model.

Best regards

Adding to other posters already mentioned and you have already aware of Cat 9K switches.

Cat 9200 - Pure Layer 2 and some Layer 3 functionality not advanced level ( Limited to static routes)

Cat 9300 _ Flull blown Layer 3 switch - may required some feature advantage license have a look before you buying.

depends on the sales person you engaging and negotiating prices, if you have budget i will go my Favorite Cat 9300

check some compare by 3rd party :
