After performing a firmware upgrade on an SG300-20 switch from ver 1.1.0.73 to 1.2.5.70 the switch now boots up with the following error and resets:
30-Aug-2011 10:47:33 %L1Mngr-F-PARAMTOOLONG: csco-sb parameter %s is too long.
The attached file contains a full output of the console boot process.
I have tried loading different versions from the console, but all produce the same error.
Has any one any idea how to resolve this issue?
Thanks
Des

There have been some reports lately that certain browsers may cause issues when upgrading, namely Chrome and Firefox. I used firefox to update my 28P switches and got some strange results, such as ports missing PoE. Removing and restoring power / resetting with the button cleared all the issues up. What browser did you use? To recover the switch the first thing I would try is to use a paper clip and hold the reset button for around 30 seconds. If you haven't done so, remove and restore AC power. Several issues I had would ONLY clear after doing that.

Brayton, thanks for the good information and reply.
In addition to those steps, if this does not resolve, you may have to load the firmware via Hyperterminal using XMODEM if the switch continues to reboot loop.
The entire process will take about 20-25 minutes.
1) To load the firmware via Hyperterminal;
Bits per seconds: 115200
Databits: 8
Partiy: None
Stop bits:1
Flow control: None
2) Reboot the switch, just unplug the power and plug it back in
3) When prompted, press ESC
4)The startup menu will appear, choose option 1 -> Download software
5) On the top of the Hyperterminal, choose the option TRANSFER -> Send File
6) Browse the firmware file and select it
7) Choose protocol-> Xmodem
8) Click send
This process will take 20 minutes or so, give or take, just let the switch idle until the process is done. This should resolve the reboot loop. If the reboot loop persists, try to load the 1.1.2.0 firmware instead then perform your upgrade. It should be stable.
If you need assistance with this process, please call 1.866.606.1866 and have your CCOID, product serial number and supply this forum post to the agent.

I have tried to load the firmware via the serial port before, trying again with 1.1.2.0 firmware give the following output:

Hi Des, if the switch is not recovering writing the firmware directly to the flash via xmodem, we should open up a service request.
Here is a list of the SBSC support numbers;
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_small_business_support_center_contacts.html
Give a call any time and please have your CCOID, serial number and provide this community forum link.

Des, please continue to use the 1.1.2.0 firmware. The business unit has recalled the 1.2.5.70 firmware. If the switch continues to reboot loop while loading the 1.1.2.0 firmware, the SBSC support will be happy to assist in trying to recover the switch.

Hello Des Riglar, hello Support community,
Thank you for your post. Could you solve the Problem? I`m having the same issue with a SF 302-08MP switch, i have tried the 3 firmwares offered on the cisco website, and no one will boot. I think there is a part of the flash that does not get overwritten by the firmware upgrade and produces the error, maybe in the snmp server.
It reboots with this error:
28-Apr-2010 13:34:14 %L1Mngr-F-PARAMTOOLONG: csco-sb parameter %s is too long.
I have the full logfile attached with the third firmware I have tried, version 1.0.0.27, but none of the firmwares solve the problem.
Hope to Rescue the Switch,
Thanks,
Nico

Hello Tom, Thanks for your reply,
I had done the process before with the 3 firmwares offered in the cisco website. I did it again, and i get a boot loop again, with following error:
%L1Mngr-F-PARAMTOOLONG: csco-sb parameter serialNo is too long.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Nico
