SG500, DNS and new firmware question/problem/issue ?

Hi-

I have the new firmware running on my SG500 switch.

I've also just finished creating my VLANs.

My issue is that I can't delete the old default VLAN .... VLAN 1

More importantly, I can't seem to get DNS to work on the switch.

When I set a DNS server, the VLAN defaults to VLAN 1, and the option is greyed out and can't be changed.

Why is it VLAN1?

Why is it greyed out?

How do I get DNS to work on the switch, for services like Time Servers?

Thanks!

Greg

Hi Greg, the vlan 1 technically can't be deleted. You may shut it down if it causes any issue. However, one behavior you may perceive is through the macro system. You may have to modify the native vlan values to your untag vlan if any conflict arises.

Do you have a DNS server? The switch is not a DNS server.

Thanks.

I have all the ports set to the alt native/default vlan.

Somewhere in the docs, it says you can delete it, but if you need it, you will need to recreate it.

I will look up how to shut it down.

Yes, I have a DNS server.

The issue is when I attempt to add a DNS server to the swtich, so it can resolve names, like the Time Server, the VLAN defaults to VLAN1 and I can't change it.

You need to change the default vlan to the desired vlan for all ports to associate to that vlan as the native vlan without modification, otherwise macroing can over ride this.

I did that too. I even saved the config, and rebooted ... Still shows VLAN1 with no way to change it.

Hi Greg, if you'd like, email me a teamviewer 8 and I'll jack with it a bit.

THANKS!

At the moment I'm away from the device.

Maybe we can set something up later or next week.

Any time tonight is fine. It's 4pm EST right now, I should be around the next 6 hours or so.
