10Gb module uplink for 3750x switch issues

Hi All,

We build a network consists of 3 x 48 ports 3750X switches and this network is uplink to the Core with 10GB uplink.

We bought 3 x 48 port 3750x with 10GB modules  plus enough10GB SFPs.

The problem is for the 10GB module , we can only have 2 x 10GB SFP connections or 4 x 1GB sfp uplinks.

How do we get around with the 3rd switch which need an extra  10GB uplink to the core ?

we do not want to buy another 3750x switch and stack to the third switch to give it more 10GB ports.

Any solution is much appreciated.

You should be able to have 2 10G or 4 gig or 2 gig and 1 10g per module.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused.  Exactly what module links do you believe you need on the 3rd switch or across all three switch members?

My question is there a network module you can get to have 3 x 10GB uplink or is there any 

alternative at all.

Hello,

With 3750X you can't go beyond 2x 10Gig uplink ports. If you require more then need to migrate to 3850 with C3850-NM-4-10G to have 4x 10Gig uplink ports.

As Vivek has already noted, the 3560/3750 maxes out with two 10g ports.  (Also as he has noted, the 3850 supports up to four 10g.)

As to other possible solutions, assuming you cannot stack any of your existing 3750s (to avoid the need to use Ethernet to connect them), then the only other option you might have is to replace one of the 3750 10g links, on your "switch3" with one (or more Etherchanneled) copper gig.

I agree with Joseph and Vivek. 

 

A single physical 3750X can support up to 2 SFP+.  If you want more than 2 then you'll need to add an additional 3750X to the stack.  


Otherwise 3850 can support up to 4 SFP+.

We were a bit concern with the new 3850 so invested in the 3750xs.

Anybody has any issues & concern with the 3850 ?

For future upgrade should we go with the unknown 3850 or stick with proven 3750x ???

We all have no choice.  Cisco is expected to announce the EoS of the 3560X/3750X soon (even though the IOS for 3650/3850 is a joke).
