make sure you have the correct file name. Many of these end in .bin If you are using a windows box as a TFTP server it may be suppressing the file name in the display.
You can alway rename the file on the PC something easy to type since the router does not care what the file is called.

Also make sure that the file is in the right directory.
Hope this helps,

Hi Sam,
i could notice that you have not mentioned the extension of that IOS file. it has to be mentioned as c2500-ixxxx.bin, where as u hav juz mentioned c2500-ixxxx.
also make sure that the file is residing the exact path as mentioned in the tftp server.
hope this helps.
rate this post if satisfied.

Hi,
1. Please make sure that you donot rename the file as sometimes it gives you problem, let it be with the original name.
2. Make sure that you are able to reach your TFTP server from the router where the files is residing. Try pinging it and make sure.
3. Make sure that your filename has a .bin extension without it doesnot work.
4. Make sure that the file in the correct directory and your TFTP servers is pointing towards the same directory.
HTH, Please rate if it does.

Hi Samuel,
It is also known that you cannot perform an IOS upgrade from normal mode when the router uses an IOS image which runs from Flash, in this case the IOS image you are trying to upload runs from Flash, it means that you won't be able to perform an IOS upgrade when the router is up, what you have to do is to boot up the router in boot mode (change the configuration register to 2102 and reload the router) when the router boots up in Boot mode you will be able to copy the IOS image from TFTP to Flash since the Flash memory will be R/W, you can also notice this one at this point in time by doing a sh version when the router is in normal mode, you will see that the Flash memory is set to R/O because this is used for having the IOS image running, also, when the router is in boot mode you have to perform the following steps:
router(boot)#copy tftp flash
Address or name of remote host [10.1.1.2]?
Source filename []? 2500-i-l.120-8.bin
Destination filename [c2500-i-l.120-8]? c2500-i-l.120-8.bin
Once the IOS image has been uploaded you have to set the configuration register to 2102 again, please be aware to avoid saving the changes when the router is in boot mode because it can erase your whole configuration, then you only have to change the config-register to 0x2102, if the you are prompted to save the configuration type NO and reload the router.
Hope this helps.
