VLAN information not propagate

Hi guys,

I have problem propagating the VLAN information although the VTP domain and password is the same for both switches..

I can propogate the VLAN no but not the description or the name of the VLAN meaning the Configuration changes didn't reflect on the other switch.

SWITCH A - VTP SERVER

CONFIGURATION is 17

Switch B - VTP CLient

Configuration is 16

The VTP configuration number is close. When you made change was it the same revision maybe? How about if you change name again does it propagate?

Are there any other switches in the VTP domain that may have higher revision #?

Hi Ken,

there are many possibilites that can cause this behaviour.

One common is that a used switch is inserte into a new domain and the revision couter was not reset.

pls check ur:

vtp domain (they must be in the same domain)

vtp password(if any)(they must have the same password)

and the configuration revision of the vlan (the highest revision will be the one used to propagate to all the switches, even if it runs VTP Client mode)

Hello,

Please check that the link between the two swithces is TRUNK, the domain name are the same (case sensitive) if all OK, remove the VTP password for test and after publish your results.

For troubleshooting purposes, try adding a "dummy" vlan on your VTP server and see if it propagates throughout your fabric.

If not, then you have a switch somewhere in your VTP domain with a higher revision number.

i tried to add a dummy..but not happening also..

i am suspecting on the trunk port..

My trunk port configure as

switchport mode trunk, that is sufficient rite?

Hi,

Please send the output of show vtp status. I am affraid about the VTP version (but it should be synchronized by server).

Maybe there is version mismatch...

check everything...get your trunk up first before setting up the vtp part of it. Check your trunk mode & encapsulation, etc. the stat your trunk to make sure its active.

3750 is connected on module WS-X4306-GB in 4506,can't propagate vlan information
