Access port connected on different VLAN ports

all settings are default, there is no router.

YES / NO depends on config.

 

I would suggest to have configuration to be TRUNK Port for a best practice.

BTW, if you use a trunk port, it will not work unless you make VLAN 20 on switch 1 the native VLAN and VLAN 30 on switch 2 the native VLAN.

Hi there,

It is a tried and tested method to bridge different VLANs with a shared subnet. Not pretty but it works.

 

You will no doubt receive a CDP native VLAN mismatch message about the connected switchports, but it is a cosmetic message and will not interfere with the operation.

Hi,

Since the access ports send and receive the traffic untagged, the local switch do not have visibility on what is configured on the connected switch as access vlan (well, not entirely true, as there are discovery protocols, but that is a different story).

However, having this type of mismatch can lead to unexpected behaviors, potential security issues etc.

Anyway, fun way to learn the importance of vlan tag :-)
