I've been trying to update the firmware on my EHWIC-4G-LTE-A with no luck. I've been following the instructions found at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/interfaces/NIM/software/configuration/guide/4GLTENIM_SW.html#88572, and no matter what I do, it fails:
Tardis#microcode reload cellular 0 1 modem-provision flash0:MC7700_03.05.29.02_00_generic_000.000_001.cwe
Reload microcode? [confirm]
Log status of firmware download in router flash?[confirm]
Firmware download status will be logged in flash0:fwlogfile

What might I be doing wrong?

for the upgrade to work, you need to also download the PRI .nvu file that is listed together with the .cwe file on cisco's download page. Then, create a folder on flash or bootflash of your router and run the microcode command using the folder instead of the .cwe file only. e.g for my case i downloaded both files:
7430_02.20.03.00_Generic_002.017_001.nvu
74XX_02.20.03.00.cwe
and then put them into a folder on the bootflash, called 4G_Fireware_pkg and then run the following command: microcode reload cellular 0 1 modem-provision bootflash:4G_Firmware_pkg
hope this helps

DM me if you need more help... I flash a few of these a year and have probably done 20 or 30 total in my career.

I had the same issue and after week of trying various things, I finally found a solution. First, the MC7700 modem by Sierra will only work up to Cisco 15.5 and will not work on any firmware above 15.5. If you are using an IOS above 15.5, downgrade to 15.5 and then apply the firmware upgrade on the ewhic using the microcode reload command. Sometimes you need to flash the ehwic up to 5 or 6 times before it will accept the flash.

Thanks. I have a 1941W running 15.8 and bought an LTE card but as soon as it booted up the router was constantly complaining about the modem being the wrong SKU and rebooting it every 10 minutes. It wouldn't upgrade or if it was about to, the cellular just reloaded. Got 15.5.3 and it seems to be fine now.
