I have a WS-C3850-48T with a new Network Module 3850-NM-4-10G . the switch is running Software Version 16.3.6 .
the issue is that 2 of the 10G ports on the 3850-NM-4-10G nodule are not working, i.e Te1/1/1 and Te1/1/2, but Ports Te1/1/3 and Te/1/1/4 are working fine.
Te1/1/1 unassigned YES unset down down Te1/1/2 unassigned YES unset down down Te1/1/3 unassigned YES unset up up Te1/1/4 unassigned YES unset up up
the Ports have Identical SFP-10GBase-SR modules, a "show interface te1/1/3" for the working ports shows that the Switch has identified the "Media Type"
Core_Switch#sho int te1/1/3 TenGigabitEthernet1/1/3 is up, line protocol is up (connected) Hardware is Ten Gigabit Ethernet, address is 1ce8.5d28.d9b7 (bia 1ce8.5d28.d9b7) MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000000 Kbit/sec, DLY 10 usec, reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255 Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set Keepalive not set Full-duplex, 10Gb/s, link type is auto, media type is SFP-10GBase-SR input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00 Last input never, output 00:00:00, output hang never Last clearing of "show interface" counters never Input queue: 0/2000/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0 Queueing strategy: fifo
BUT for non-working ports te1/1/1/ and te1/1/2 the "show interface" doesnt show the Media Type of the SFP.
Core_Switch#sho int te1/1/1 TenGigabitEthernet1/1/1 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect) Hardware is Ten Gigabit Ethernet, address is 1ce8.5d28.d9b5 (bia 1ce8.5d28.d9b5) MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000000 Kbit/sec, DLY 10 usec, reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255 Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set Keepalive not set ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00 Last input never, output never, output hang never Last clearing of "show interface" counters never Input queue: 0/2000/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0 Queueing strategy: fifo Output queue: 0/40 (size/max) 5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
i have tested the devices on the other side of the non working ports 1 and 2 and they all worked if they are connected to the switch on ports 3 and 4, i also swapped the SFP modules from Ports 1&2 to ports 3&4 and confirmed that the SFP modules do work if they are in ports te1/1/3 and te1/1/4. so the issues is that ports te1/1/1 and 2 seem to be disabled or they do not identify the hardware connected to them.
help is very much appreciated,
bonnie

Hello,
try and issue the hidden global command ' service unsupported-transceiver'.
Or configure 'media-type sfp' under the interfaces...
Of course there is always a chance that you have a defective NIM...
