Catalyst 9200l stack issue

Hi,

i'm working with for the first time, I connected two C9200L-48T-4G in stack, they worked fine, the state before the issue was the following

2/1 OK 1 50cm Yes Yes Yes 1 No
2/2 OK 1 50cm Yes Yes Yes 1 No

Suddenly the hosts connected to the second switch of the stack stopped to work, and I see the stack port down:

Could be an hardware issue on stack cable or module?

What's the corret replacement procedure, how can I add the second swith in stack member again?

Thanks

If I undestand well, the process should be:

- set the highest switch priority to swith 1

- connect new stack cable prior to powering it on switch 2

- power on switch 2

- check stack discovered operation

- reboot entire stack with reload command by cli

Could be fine?

Thanks

Gian Luca

I have seen some bug around 16.09.X - suggest to upgrade to 16.12.X for better stable.

- set the highest switch priority to swith 1
- connect new stack cable prior to powering it on switch 2
- power on switch 2
- check stack discovered operation
- reboot entire stack with reload command by cli

should work after changing the number and priority - write the config.

The stack is running an early version of 16.9.X.  I would recommend upgrading the firmware because I suspect the stack is about to "split".

Hi,

what's the right process to upgrade a IOS XE release?

I found this:

https://www.ciscozine.com/catalyst-9000-upgrade/

Could be fine?

Thanks

The instructions on how to do the upgrade, in Install Mode, are found in the Release Notes.

All switchs in the stack  must have the same release sw?

  • All switches in the same stack must be running in the same exact IOS-XE version.
  • All switches in the same stack must have their IOS in either Install Mode or Bundle Mode (and not both).

Hi Leo,

a last question: if I have a switch in in install mode and anotehre in bundle mode, howe can I switch from install to bundle?

Thanks

You can convert bundle to install mode and join to the stack :

below proceedure still works for Cat 9K
