Catalyst 9500 Bundled Mode Downgrade

Hello There,

I am looking to downgrade a couple of Catalyst 9500 switches to 16.12.x from 17.x. Switches are running in the bundled mode. As of my understanding, in the bundled mode, you just need to change the boot variable to upgrade or downgrade. My issue is, I am not able to change the boot variable. Switch accepts the command and despite of me doing write memory, the primary boot variable stays primary. I tried negating the primary variable pointer but it still shows. I am not sure, what I am doing wrong here. Any help would be appreciated. Register is set 0x102.

Thank you,

TT

Re: Catalyst 9500 Bundled Mode Downgrade

Personally i do not believe you need to change register here.

if this is bundle mode :

copy new IOS XE in to flash ( i am sure new tins have more space)

Edit the Boot variable

Step 1

Clear the boot variable

Switch(config)# no boot system

Step 2blank.gif Edit the boot variable to point to the new image.

Switch(config)# boot system flash:OLD.BIN

Step 3blank.gif Use the write memory command to save the configuration change.

Switch# write memory

Step 4blank.gif Use the show boot command to confirm that your boot variable is pointing to the new image

Switch# show boot

Step 5

Reload

Note  : make sure offload the config out of the box. read the release notes and effects of downgrade, required maintenance window since switch will reload.

Re: Catalyst 9500 Bundled Mode Downgrade

Thanks guys, for replying. "No boot system" did the trick. I was trying to use the command with the image name that it was pointing to but it didn't like it. Mysterious ways of the "Cisco World". Thanks again. Stay well.

Best,

TT
