Hi Team,

 

I have cisco 'WS-C4500X-32'  chassi running with "cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.08.01.E.152-4.E1.bin" where i observed CPU spike for some time.

also found one interface carried load.

Please help me to find the root cause.

can any one explain what is "licensed" process indicating.Possible share the cisco doc for the same.

A Cisco Catalyst 4506 Switch was showing high CPU load every 10 minutes.

A reload helped work around the issue, but high CPU was observed every 10 minutes. So sporadically, the high CPU load was seen.
Analyzing SHOW TECH showed that the CPU load always stayed at 100%.

In order to troubleshoot the issue the following commands were executed:

show platform CPU statistics

show process cpu | excl 0.0

show platform health

show spanning-tree summary

The control traffic counters were high in numbers and the K2CPUMan review process which was responsible for handling system CPU stayed at 30%.

The customer had also reported that all the IP Phones were going out of service.

During the sniffer capture, it was found that the one MAC address, which belonged to a 3Com switch was causing the STP loop. We shut down the port and the CPU load dropped to 25% from 100%.

Removing the 3Com switch from the network had resolved the issue.

After the issue disappeared, we connected an IP Phone that was in use on the 3Com switch to the suspect port and monitored it for a few hours with no further high CPU load being noticed.
