%EC-5-CANNOT_BUNDLE2: Gi1/2 is not compatible with Gi1/1 and will be suspended (speed of Gi1/2 is 1000M, Gi1/1 is auto)

Hello,

I have a little problem, i have 4 ports in an port-channel between 3560X & 6504-E switches , after a 3560X reloads one of the ports takes the speed and duplex auto auto the other 3 ports came in full 1000, the 4 ports are configurated with speed nonegotiated. for this mismatch in speed one port is suspended.

So anybody can help me to explain why is happening that the port takes the speed & duplex in auto auto, and what do i should to do in order to fix it?

After a shutdown / no shutdown the interface takes the speed 1000 and the port is up/up connected.

i hope somebody can help me

thanks

Avril,

This for sure looks like a bug to me.

Have you tried hardcoding speed/duplex on both ends?

For 3750, there is a bug filed ,

CSCtg71149.

Symptom:
%EC-5-CANNOT_BUNDLE2: Gi1/0/25 is not compatible with Gi1/0/26 and will be suspended (flow control receive of Gi1/0/25 is on, Gi1/0/26 is off)

Conditions:
c3750(A)(Port-channel)====(Port-channel)c3750(B)
port:1000BaseSX SFP

1,c3750(B) reloading or powering off /on
2,c3750(A) output the following message.

Workaround:

I have also referred to the similar cases & this bug doesn't restrict itself to the flow control issue that you see in the above bug, but, to speed/duplex issue. What's the IOS on this 3560 switch?

Regards,

Amit Aneja

Hi Amit,

I have not tried hardcoding the interface in both ends.

The version is  12.2(55)SE1

Thanks & Regards

Avril AG

As far as I know, you can´t hardcode the speed on a SFP Port.

Amit I´m trying to match a bug with the image Avril posted and found nothing. Did you have any luck?

Carlos,

I agree with you, I have to admit that i missed seeing that it was SFP & you cannot hardcode speed on it. I haven't got a chance to look at possible bugs, got busy with something else. If i find anything, i will post it.

thanks for correcting me.

Amit

It´s ok, I thank you for the quick response really ☺

I hope we can find something here because the same issue happened to me as well and of course, its an honor to work with you.

Best Regards!

Avril,

I haven't found any other bugs that have been filed for this issue. I would still go with the bug that I mentioned above CSCtg71149. this bug is resolved in 12.2(55)SE03.

Here are some steps that I would like you to try & that would help isolate the issue:

1) If you could, please change the port/SFP on 3560X side that comes up in auto state, this would isolate if we have any issues with the port/SFP. In one of the cases, I have noticed that.

2) IOS upgarde to 12.2(55)SE03, if that works for you, I will test it in my lab as well & I will update the above bug to be considered for 3560X as well...My guess is that this should be the solution if we do not have an issue with the port/SFP as both 3560 and 3750 follow the same IOS code.

Regards,

Amit

Hello Amit,

I upgraded the switch with the 12.2(55)SE03 version and doing some test in 5 reloads the port was in full 1000,
I upgraded another box with the same features, but in 6 reloads in 2 times the port was in "auto".

Please any help will be apreciated

Best regards

Avril

Hi Avril,

Looks like you are hitting the following defect:

CSCto57605 - after power off/on,the Speed/Duplex of G1/1/1 turns to 'auto/auto'

http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCto57605

This will be most likely fixed in 12.2(55)SE4. Please subscribe to bug updates in the Bug Toolkit page.

Best regards,

Andras

Yeah, this is the one I have been looking for. Thanks Andras.

Guys this is a 3560X, the last update for the IOS train is the 12.2(55)SE3, is it posible to use that one in that switch?

*****correction 12.2(55)SE4 for 12.2(55)SE3, the train goes to SE3 (last update)

The latest version for 3560X in 12.2(55)SE branch is 12.2(55)SE3, and SE4 is not yet available.

The bug is fixed in 15.0(1)SE which is already available for download for 3560X switches.

Best regards,

Andras

Do you happen to have the link to download it?

Hi,

You may consider you are hitting the CSCtk54457 caveat as per beneath:

CSCtk54457 (Catalyst 3750-X and 3560-X)

On Catalyst 2960-S, 3560-X, and 3750-X switches, some SFP+ module ports do not work correctly with 1 Gigabit SFP modules when the speed for the port and for the connected device is set to nonegotiate. This occurs only on some ports and some SKUs.

The workaround is to set the speed on the SFP interface to autonegotiate by entering the speed auto interface configuration command.

Best regards,

Antonin
