Hi,
Switch#show interface status.
Gix/x err-disabled 500 full auto 10/100/1000Bas
Switch#sh interfaces gigabitEthernet x/x
GigabitEthernet x/x is down, line protocol is down (err-disabled)
I tried to re –enabled those ports , but no luck, it is still in same state , Switch had got rebooted few days back.
What could possibly go wrong ??

Gix/x err-disabled diagnostics
I have never seen the reason of "diagnostics" before.
Switch had got rebooted few days back.
Can you post the result of the command "sh post" please.

What do u mean by show post command ?

Mahin,
Basically, we need the diagnostics test results.
The command should be:
"show diagnostics result ... "
You should be able to do this command for specific module.
If you could send following info, itwould be very helpful:
- Platform
- Module type (exact PID)
- IOS version

Yogesh

What do u mean by show post command ?
In enable mode, type the command "sh post" and post the result.
The command "sh post" means display the POST result. POST stands for Power On Self Test.

Hi Vacker,
Please post the output to the following commands:
1. sh version
2. sh intererface status error
3. sh post

Nuts.
1. "sh post" won't work on a 6500 chassis. Can you instead post the output to the command "sh module"?
2. Andras (post below this) has a good command. Can you also post the output to the command "sh diagnostic result module all failure".
3. Can you re-seat the line card in slot 9? If you can, console into the chassis, re-seat the line card and post the output of the "sh log". I want to see the entire bootup process of the line card. May also help if you increase the logging buffer temporarily.

hi, my friend
I am sorry to bother you rest, I can't re-seat the line card in slot 9 currently , other ports of the line card are running.

What about the diagnostics command?
05-02-2011 06:35 AM
Hi,
When did you start observing this?
What has changed in the network or config around this time?
How many ports are showing this?
What error messages have you seen in the logs when this happened?
Please attach an output of the following:
sh ver
sh mod
sh log
sh post
sh diagnostic result module all failure
Best regards,
Andras

If it diagnostics then someone probably has online diagnostics setup to run at scheduled times and during one of the runs it thought it saw a problem and err-disabled the port. The port does not come back if you issue a "shut/no shut command?

Do you have a spare port to move the connection to? I've seen err-disabled when the physical port is bad and needed to be replaced. There are other reasons a port can go into error disabled as well but swapping it to another port to see if that other port goes into err-disabled can quickly identify if you have a faulty physical port.
