Factory Default for Catalyst 3850s Removed from Stack w/Password

Hello and thanks in advance for the help

I have a bunch of uninstalled 3850s that were previously in a stack that I need to factory reset one by one.  The switches all boot to a password-protected prompt that I do not have the solution to.  I have attempted to use the mode button procedure to do this but it does not work.  I am unable to get to ENABLE mode and the flash appears to be read-only.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @jrichards

 Can you try this sequence?

flash_init
dir flash:
boot flash:<ios in the flash>

I am new to this so I am not 100% sure which specific file is the IOS.  Here is what I am looking at:

Screenshot 2023-07-10 132853.jpg

boot flash:packages.conf

Just confirm the name as the print Visibility is not good.

The switch brings me to the previous owner's password-protected login screen at the completion of the boot when I run the sequence you provided.

Get in the switch prompt again and run the following command

Switch: SWITCH_IGNORE_STARTUP_CFG=1

Switch: SWITCH_DISABLE_PASSWORD_RECOVERY=0

Switch: BOOT=flash:packages.conf

Switch: boot

OK so I ran this process and received an error on the second command as the file is read only.

The switch booted to the SWITCH> command prompt where I was able to enter EN mode.  I don't know where to go from here.

Wait....you are in privilege mode here! what else you need more?

I should have rebooted at this point to check, I am now in the initial configuration dialog.  Problem solved.  Thank you for the help!

Glad you fixed.

Boot the switches into ROMMON, put the firmware file into a USB flash drive and use the ROMMON command "emergency-install usb0:filename.bin".
