HSRP not working

Hi Everyone,

Router1(7200VXR) = IOS (tm) 7200 Software (C7200-JK9S-M), Version 12.2(13)T5,  RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Router2(3800) running 15.1 IOS

I have already 2 HSRP Group and working configurations, but when I added this 3rd HSRP Group, it's not turning up.

Router1 says he is active in Group3 and my Router2 says also that he is also active in Group3.

I tried to debug , using "debug standby" and no output is generated. IP address connectivity between Router1 and Router2 is OK by pinging each other.

ping 10.10.10.1 from Router2 is OK and vice versa.

By the way, I have already 2 HSRP Groups already working in the same subnet.

Kindly advise if someone encountered this issue.

    How do you have your network setup so that these 2 interfaces can talk directly with each other.  Is there a switch below these 2 devices with interfaces in the same vlan ?

It might be helpful to see the output of traceroute on one router accessing the interface address of the other router.

It might also be helpful to see the output of show arp from one or both of the routers. This would verify whether or not there is good layer 2 connectivity between the routers.

The original poster says that there are already two HSRP groups working in that subnet. Are these HSRP groups between the same two routers?

First of all,  I appreciate you Glen and Richard for the quick response... I've already figured it out,

I think my 7200VXR Router needs an upgrage because what happened is when I lowered the Standby Priority of my 7200VXR Router,  it became the Standby Router and the 3800 Router became the Active Router.

Now when I increased the Standby Priority again for the 7200VXR Router it became the Active Routerand the Standby Router was "unknown" using show standby command. And also from the 3800 Router, I issued show standby command and it displayed that the 3800 Router was also the Active Router and the Standby Router was also "unknown".

My work around on this is that I have no choice but to set the Standby priority of my 7200VXR Router to a lower value. I think this is better since it's better to have a redundancy working than never.

My 2nd work around on this is I will do an IOS upgrade of my 7200VXR Router since the IOS is really old.
