Hi all-
I have an old 6509 with a SUP720 that I seem to have killed. I was trying to upgrade the code.
Before the reboot, she file systems looked like this:
and the sup-bootdisk: directory looked like this:
I changed the boot line in the config from
boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI13.bin
to
boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXJ10.bin
After reload, it now boots to rommon and I don't see anything on the disk:
Should there be a sup-bootdisk device?
I used this same procedure successfully on another similar device and it worked fine. What did I do wrong? Where do I go from here? Can I resurrect this SUP?
Thanks for your help!
Wes

The internal CF is dead.
If I remembered correctly, the internal CF is located at the (left or right) edge of the line card. Replace that with anything 2 Gb. Original 1 Gb CF are still available in e-bay.

best is boot from USB and try format the flash and load the image

"bootdisk:" is the supervisor card's "on board" and internal CF.
"disk0: is the supervisor card's external CF slot.
While in ROMMON, post the complete output to the command "dir disk0:" & "dir bootflash:". If "dir bootflash:" is not accepted, try "dir flash:".
The USB is disabled by default.

Thanks for the response - back at this. disk0 is fine. I can boot from it. It's the internal that seems to be the problem. This is a different switch, but same behavior, so I thought perhaps I am missing something.
rommon 17 > dir bootflash:
Initializing ATA monitor library...
Directory of bootflash:
rommon 18 > dir disk0:
Initializing ATA monitor library...
Directory of disk0:
12217 145281892 -rw- s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXJ10.bin
5104 18050 -rw- 20070718-confg
5106 25030 -rw- 20070914HSRP.config
5108 296673 -rw- start
3 109897292 -rw- s72033-adventerprisek9-mz.151-2.SY12.bin
Also, I cannot format the sup-bootdisk on this:
c6509-1-lab.cbc#format sup-bootdisk:
Format operation may take a while. Continue? [confirm]y
Format operation will destroy all data in "sup-bootdisk:". Continue? [confirm]y
%Error formatting sup-bootdisk: (TF I/O failed in data-out phase)
Not sure why I can't use the internal flash on these. I may just buy come CF card and get on with my life!
Any insights would be appreciated - thanks again!

Thanks @Leo Laohoo - twice for this one - I also found an old post of yours talking about the 2101 vs 2102 confreg setting which was part of the issue!
