I have a site with a 2811 router which has a NM-16ESW module. The SVI does not seem to come up up even after connecting devices to the port, it always shows up down. Could not find any issue with the configuration. Am I missing something?

Hi,
As I have not yet received any response to my last post about the IP phone type connected and I should leave for a while now, there is one other thing for you to check: as your PPWR-DCARD-16ESW supports only Cisco prestandard PoE detection method please make sure your phone model supports this as well.
Best regards,
Antonin

Hi,
That is correct: CP-7941G-GE does not support Cisco prestandard PoE negotiation. You can try to assign PoE for this model by static way. As this is Class 3 device it should take no more than 12.9 W according to Cisco data sheets. So the command (under the fa 1/x inerface) should read:
"power inline static max 12900".
Just be aware that static is the priority assignment, ie. all static PoE is applied first from the PoE budget.
I also hope that with the interface up/up all your other issues disappeared.
Best regards,
Antonin

Hi,
Yes, you are right: with EtherSwitch Network Modules these are only available options, I am sorry about that. Also to my knowledge there is no other option to PPWR-DCARD-16ESW daughter card which would allow 802.3af PoE negotiation. So to support the CP-7941G-GE phone with your network module the easiest way would be to use AC power source (CP-PWR-CUBE-3= with the appropriate country power cord) provided you have only couple of these phones. Also when EOS of NM-16ESW back in 2008, Cisco suggested replacement by NME-16ES-1G-P network module which is capable of both pre-stanadard and 802.3af, so you can consider this.
I am sorry I cannot provide better information or help.

Antonin

Hi,
You must have an active client connection on vlan 1 for the SVI to go to an up/up condition . Once there is a live client on the switch you will see vlan 1 up/up .
Please rate the helpfull posts.

Thanks Naidu for the reply.
I am not planning to use VLAN 1. The SVI for VLAN 1 is shutdown.
I want SVI's for VLAN397 and VLAN497 up up, which is not happening

Hi,
The thumb rule is that you must have an active client connection on vlan 1 for the SVI to go to an up/up condition.
Once there is a live client on the switch you will see vlan 1 up/up .

Hi,
What is the output of a "show interface status"? Do you have any of your switchports that participate in vlan 397 or vlan 497 on the NM-16ESW in the UP/UP condition.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Jennyjohn,
looks you do not have any physical port which is assigned to vlan 397 or 497 in up/up status. Incase if cables are not connected, then connect the cable and make it up/up and the vlan will come up.
If you have your physical port admin down, then bring it up.
If you have a trunk port allowing vlan 397 & 497 then the SVI will come up ..... dont worry.......just
bring any of the above.interfaces to UP/UP status and you will see it yourself ;-)

Hi,
Please be aware that in addition to PPWR-DCARD-16ESW module you also need special power supply unit to supply inline power to your IP phones via the NM-16ESW module, ie. if the router was not originally ordered as Inline Power Bundle (Cisco-2811-AC-IP) than you need to swap the original P.S.U. for the one with P/N "PWR-2811-AC-IP=".

Thanks Antonin for the reply.
I managed to get the PWR-2811-AC-IP, and installed it in the router (as per the document)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/2800/hardware/installation/guide/10_hw.html#wp1161133
even still I cannot power up the IP phones. cdp and voice vlan are enabled on the port.

Hi,
Will you please check that you are using 12.3(8)T IP Base IOS release at minimum and then let us know the status of -48V LED and EN LED of the module.
Thanks & Regards,
Antonin

We are running C2800NM-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M, Version 12.4(24)T4
and both the -48V LED and EN LED are up.

Hi,
OK, that sounds good. I am sure you have checked cabling before, so what is the status of interface fa 1/x after connecting the phone (BTW whould you mind to tell us the phone type/model)?
Best regards,
Antonin

The status of the interface fa 1/8 to which the phone is up down
Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol
FastEthernet1/8 unassigned YES unset up down
The phone model we are using is CP-7941G-GE. I checked the data sheet and it says that it does not support Cisco Prestandard PoE. I connected the CP-7941G and it worked fine. Now it is up up.
FastEthernet1/8 unassigned YES unset up up
Thanks Antonin

Unfortunately the router does not support the command power inline static max 12900. I really hoped it would be there.
The only commands available are power inline auto and power inline never
Rouer2811(config-if)#power inline ?
auto Automatically detect and power inline devices
never Never apply inline power
Thanks
