Hi,
We have just purchased and installed a 4506-E chassis. It contains a supervisor, two POE blades and 3 non-poe blades. Version is 12.2(53)SG1. Anyhoo, one of the ports isn't providing power to an IP phone. We can plug the phone into any of the other POE ports and it works fine. Is there a way to test an idividual port for POE problems? What could the problem be? The port works for normal data but will not provide power.
Thanks,
Daniel

Try the command "sh power inline" and verify if you have enough power.

Ok. Lots of power left for you.
Can you post the command "sh power in
Can you post the command "sh module".
Can you post the config of the interface.
Is CDP enabled globally?

Nothing out of the ordinary from your last post.
We can plug the phone into any of the other POE ports and it works fine.
Define "ports"? Desk ports or directly-connected-to-the-switch ports?
Is there a way to test an idividual port for POE problems?
Ok, let me make a confession. I'm no expert of the 4500 so please don't get annoyed that this command may not work. Try performing a cable test from your switch to the phone by using the command "test cable tdr10-26-2010 07:48 PM
Try another device like an AP if you have one lieing around. Try resetting the module with the questionable port . If this doesn't fix it then get an RMA to get it replaced...

unfortunatley those commands aren't recognised. I will try to reset the module.
Thanks,

Hello, did the reset worked? have you had the issue again?
One of my customer have a similar problem, some of the poe interfaces from one of the cards stop working. They had an ip phone receiving poe in one port (for example 1/17) if the try to plug another ip phone in other port (1/2) it did not set up. If they change the ip phone from 1/17 to 1/2 it did not work and if the plugged back the ip phone from 1/2 to 1/17 it didn´t work again. After reseting the module it is working ok again all the interfaces, but, I am afraid it could fail again.Do you have any new issue?
I have found this other post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3038815#3038815 . Did it applie to your issue?

I have the same issue here. I have 4x SW 4506 and one PoE port is not working
to power the IP Phone. All with port # 25. How did you fix your issue?

Hi Daniel,
I have exactly the same issue that you have described. Did you solve the issue and how did you do that? I'm thinking that perhaps a software update might help, but I can't find any bugs matching the behaviour of the switch module.
Best regards
Volker

Daniel, I have had just about the same problem. I was not able to power any new IP Phones from a POE blade. What was different is I had a wireless unit that has been running for about a month. I solved the problem by resetting the blade.
Good luck
Fred
