ospf, asbr

hi every body

how is everyone doing?

Let say we have two companies, company A and Company B.  Both are running ospf.  Let assume both companies decide to merge.

now the question each company  has its own area 0,   how could we acheive this goal ?

My understanding is    If  configure  let say router Ra in company A  to be ASBR   (  that's router that connects company A to company B),  this  router will not be able to distinguish  that it is connecting to Company B  (  as  ospf  is identified by process on router not by ASN).

second thing  as there could be only one area 0,  if these two companies  merge,  RA ( our asbr router at company A)  will see two  ares 0  (  one for company A  and one for company B).

Thanks and have a nice weekend.

You need to merge the 2 area 0s if you are planning to run just OSPF between companies.

What many do during a merger, setup BGP between companies and leave their IGP intact.

Probably, another though if these merged company are seperated by mpls network.. no issues all you need is an BGP connection between them and have both area0 connect to mpls superbackbone area 0.

Else you connect what ever way you like , even if the area 0 is not attached to each other, use virtual-link to extend area 0 for full reachability.
