Show CDP not showing trunked switches IP

Hello,

We have a Cisco 3750 and 2 trunks to 2 more switches.  I can get on the 3750 fine but can't ping the 2 switches.  The trunks are up and they show up in "Show CDP nei" but with no IP info.

The native vlan looks ok too and we can connect to devices on the remote switches.

What could be wrong here?  I guess a layer 2 issue somewher.

Thanks

Hello,

This looks like the two switches do not have an IP address that would be alive. That address would need to be configured on an "interface Vlan"; that interface needs to be "no shut" and be actually up. Common reasons for an interface Vlan to be down are:

  • The corresponding VLAN does not exist, or is not active (rarely used nowadays, would need "state suspend" or "shutdown" in the "vlan XXX" configuration)
  • There is no physical port up, either access or trunk, where this VLAN would be allowed

Can you check this?

Best regards,
Peter

These are install in a remote location that is physically hard to get to, they are in some sort of ceiling void (yeah I know).

Thanks for the info though.
