vlan dhcp

Hello all,

Dive in:  Have two VLANs defined on a switch, VLAN100 and VLAN101.

I have a machine in interface Fa1/36 assigned to VLAN100.

I have another like machine in Fa1/37 assigned to VLAN100.

Port 36 is not getting a DHCP address.

Port 37 is.

Tried putting Port 36 on VLAN101, still nothing.

Ended up putting a different machine on Port 36 and it obtained DHCP from both VLANs when tested.

Moved on.

Both VLANs have the exact same ip-helper-address.

There is no exclusion for the machine MAC address on the DHCP server.

I know this has to be a machine issue, where to begin?  This isn't an immediate issue but I'd rather be proactive in case it pops up again.

Thanks for any directions!

Hi Scott,

Just want to make sure this.............was the DHCP in the first machine enabled or not???

What do you see when you issue the command "ip config" on the machine's command prompt ?

Hope machine lan  port is not in disabled status.

I agree with the previous poster. Has DHCP been enabled on the network card you were using?

It should be pretty simple to eliminate or confirm the switch as part of the problem: Just swap the cables.

Swap the two cables on the switch. If the problem follows the cable, then it's the PC attached to that port. If the problem stays with the port, it's something in the switch config more than likely.

Hi,

Check the details as mentioned by the people above. If DHCP is enabled on the machine then check the show interface fas1/36 when you connect the machine on port fas 1/36. Check if the port has an incrementing value of broadcast received.
