Hi, The problem here is im not able to access 2 out of 5 vlans from my CE 500 switch .

All the vlans are configured in cisco 4506 core switch.

Whereas i am able to access all these Vlans in my cisco 2960 switch .

When i check the VTP status in CE 500 and cisco 4506 respectively the following is the output :

CISCO 4506 SWITCH

#show vtp stat

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 50

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005

Number of existing VLANs : 36

VTP Operating Mode : Server

VTP Domain Name : nizwa

VTP Pruning Mode : Enabled

VTP V2 Mode : Enabled

VTP Traps Generation : Enabled

MD5 digest : 0xE6 0xB2 0x66 0x23 0x5B 0x84 0xC3 0x9C

Configuration last modified by 172.25.1.1 at 5-20-07 22:59:23

Local updater ID is 172.25.1.1 on interface Vl1 (lowest numbered VLAN interfa

found)

Number of existing VLANs : 11

VTP Operating Mod : Client

In Cisco 2960 (all vlan works here), the following is the output ,

bldng31-switch7#show vtp sta

Configuration Revision : 50

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 255

Number of existing VLANs : 36

i couldn't see the domain name :nizwa in ur CE500, so can you configure that & giv the domain name & lemme know the feed back

hi , i just changed the vtp domain name to : nizwa .

After 30 secs the complete network went down .

i could not access the core switch 4506 console .

i had to restart both the switches to restore the network.

kindly revert. it s bit urgent

thanks ...

hey magesh,

assigning the vtp domain name nizwa to the client switch doesn't affect the entire network t go down, can you enable vtp transparent on the switches & send the configuration,so that i can see how it is been configured?

also post the "show vlan".

Attach a show tech from the CE500.

Did you manually add all the necessary vlans on the CE500? The CE500 AFAIK only supports vtp transparent mode, regardless of what you see in sh vtp status.

yes, All these VLANS were added manually .

Actually the connectivity is something like this,

VLANS configured in Cisco 4506 ,

The fibre backbones from 4506 switch are connected to the CE 500 switch .

The CE 500 is cascaded with the Cisco 2960 switch .

All the vlans work in cisco 2960, but not in CE 500 ?

What may be the issue ?

thanks for all ur responses !!

What firmware version are you running on the CE500?

hi ,

pls revert.

Try upgrading to SEG2. I've had problems before involving 120 CE500s, all with the FY release. I don't know about the SEG release which you now have. But you won't lose anything by going to SEG2, as this release fixed a very major flaw.

If you're interested, here's the link to my original problem: http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Network%20Infrastructure&topic=LAN%2C%20Switching%20and%20Routing&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Dpass_through%26location%3Doutline%40%5E1%40.1dddfcc7

CE 500 SWITCH

Command was: sh vtp status----------

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 0

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 36

Number of existing VLANs : 11

VTP Operating Mod : Client

VTP Domain Name :

VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled

VTP V2 Mode : Disabled

VTP Traps Generation : Disabled

MD5 digest : 0xBA

Well If you look at this output you are missing domain name, either your switch firmware doesnt support VTP or you have misconfigured VTP.

In order for VTP to sync domain names and versions must be identical.

Please recheck these values and try again.

Jaffer

HI ,

Have upgraded the IOS to SEG2 ..

Still same problem .. ??
