Hi,

I need to replace an older 3560 with a new 2960-S and am wondering if the SX SFPs I already have will be compatible with the 2960-S.

Switch#sh inventory

NAME: "1", DESCR: "WS-C3560-48PS"

PID: WS-C3560-48PS-S   , VID: V04, SN: CATXXXXXXXXX

NAME: "GigabitEthernet0/2", DESCR: "1000BaseSX SFP"

PID:                     , VID:    , SN: H11K611

NAME: "GigabitEthernet0/4", DESCR: "1000BaseSX SFP"

PID:                     , VID:    , SN: H11K776

Here is the show inventory, I cannot find any way to get the part numbers of teh SFPs so if you have that command please also let me know.

Thanks and regards.

Gerry Egan

Nope.  If the SFP does not have "Cisco" written on it it's not.

The S/N does not look familliar so I'm suspecting you're using a 3rd party component.

Hi,

The SFPs are Cisco original products. We had another identical switch fail and they had Cisco originals installed with a very similar serial number.

I've never seen a serial number like that before.

OK, so if the SFP are Cisco then it will work on the 2960S.

Does a "show idprom interface g0/2"  show anything different?  Usually that will show all the info.

What do you think?

Should be fine , shows as a Cisco sfp .

If the SFP is already working in an existing Cisco device (in your case 3560), it should work just fine in a 2960.

GLC-SX-MM is supported on the 2960s series.
