Are SCCP Phones More Intelligent than SIP Phones

Hi,

i have an issue where a 7841 (SIP) phone on my local LAN keeps getting one way audio issues every few days or so. this is the only 7841 i have in my environment. i have some 7821s and a 7861 and these are working fine.

they are all registered to a CME.

i tried replacing the 7841 with a 7945 (SCCP) and from the moment i plugged in the 7945, it kept rebooting every 2 minutes or so. I then moved the 7945 to another network drop and it remained up and stable for more than 20 minutes.

This is making me believe that this is a cable issue and not the Phone.

i am trying to get some answers as to why the 7841 SIP phone is not rebooting or disconnecting if the connection to the CME is lost.

thanks, Surendra

Hi Surendra,

To troubleshoot such an issue you will need to capture some details when the 7841 is experiencing the one way audio issue:

>> "debug ccsip messages" from the CME

>> If possible a packet capture from the 7841

This will provide details of which SIP messages are being exchanged between the IP Phone and CME and what lead to the issue.

If there is only one 7841 in the setup or only one 7841 is facing the issue then check if you can upgrade its firmware to the latest version and experience the same issue.
